World’s First China-Europe Arctic Container Express Route Officially Launched
On September 22, the vessel Istanbul Bridge completed loading operations at Berth 7 of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port’s Beilun Container Terminal Phase I in Zhejiang Province. In the early hours of September 23, the ship set sail via the Arctic shipping lane toward the Port of Felixstowe in the United Kingdom, marking the official opening of the world’s first China-Europe Arctic Container Express Route (China-Europe Arctic Express).
The China-Europe Arctic Express runs through the Northern Sea Route (NSR) across the Arctic, reaching Europe directly. The one-way voyage takes only 18 days—22 days shorter than traditional routes—while cutting carbon emissions by about 50 percent. This route is designed specifically for cross-border e-commerce and high-value goods. As a major achievement in the development of the “Ice Silk Road,” it provides faster and more sustainable international logistics options for China’s advanced manufacturing, cross-border e-commerce, and new energy industries.
The launch of the China-Europe Arctic Express also marks the first time Ningbo-Zhoushan Port has extended its service network to the Arctic Ocean, completing the “last piece of the puzzle” in its global shipping route coverage.
